The Scotch Whisky Research Institute is the industry’s Research & Technology Organisation
The Scotch Whisky Research Institute has been delivering innovation and scientific support to the industry since 1974. We are funded by our member companies who together, in terms of volume, account for the majority of the industry.
Our main function is to carry out pre-competitive research, providing knowledge to support the long-term sustainability of Scotch Whisky. We also provide day-to-day technical support to our members and offer a range of service analyses. In addition to Scotch Whisky, we carry out research and provide advice on other distilled spirits.
Our laboratories house specialised equipment to carry out our research. Our scientists have a high level of academic expertise combined with in-depth knowledge of the whisky production process and a good understanding of industry research priorities.
