BARIToNE (Barley Industrial Training Network) is a £3.6m BBSRC and industry funded seven-year Collaborative Training Partnership (CTP) led by SWRI. This is funding 30 PhDs to study sustainable barley science and will create the next generation of barley scientists. SWRI is one of the 18 industrial partners, from across the barley supply chain, and there are 7 academic partners. Each PhD will comprise an academic lead, as well as an industrial partner. Students spend a minimum of 3 months working with the industrial partner, further ensuring the industrial relevance of their work.
The PhD projects focus on three broad themes:
- Climate Resilience
- Reduced Inputs
- Healthy Soils
